Monte Cristo Puff Pastry Appetizers

There has always been something about the Monte Cristo sandwich that has fascinated me. Something about the unique combination of flavors and cooking methods that produces the most decadent, delicious, guilty pleasure.

I’ll admit, when I was a kid and I’d see people order this sandwich, I was so grossed out by the fact that there was powdered sugar on a fancy grilled cheese…and then adding strawberry jam or preserves?!?! Bleh!

Well, fast forward SEVERAL years later and I can now tell you that I see what all the fuss was about. Cheese and meat is always good, but when you dip it in an egg mixture like you would french toast, then fry it, sprinkle it with powdered sugar, then dip it in strawberry jam, it becomes this sweet and savory combo that hits all your taste buds that makes your mouth water.

Because of the unique flavor combination of the Monte Cristo, I wanted to create an appetizer for this holiday season based on this delectable sandwich that was far easier (meaning not as messy 🙂 ), and could be done in less than 20 minutes! And, because the end result looks so fancy and tastes so good, holiday party guests won’t believe how simple they are to make!
