We have MOVED!!!

It’s official – we have moved!

HELLO!!!!  It has been just over a month since I last posted and let me tell you, it feels like it’s actually been WAAAY longer than that!  This past month has been one of the most stressful, hectic times of my life, but I’m happy to tell you, the stress is over because….WE’VE MOVED!!!

For those of you who may be new here or have forgotten, my husband and I started the process of moving back in October.  We couldn’t keep things simple though, and we actually decided to move to another part of the state entirely.  And to complicate things even further, we built our new house.

Exterior of our house close to the end of construction. Once it warms up a bit, we’ll get a driveway and sod. 🙂

So why’d we do it?

The most common question we get is “Why’d you move so far away from where you’re currently living?  Do you have family there?”  The answer to that is ‘No.’  So, let me explain.  My husband and I are both from a small town in central Illinois.  We grew up together and he was actually the first boy I ever had a crush on, but then college happened.  We went to different schools, moved to different states for jobs, then miraculously ended up in the same city at the same time and we’ve been together ever since.  He got a job near St. Louis, so I followed even though we both always wanted to live in the Chicago area.

We lived in the St. Louis area for almost 10 years, and while we were very happy there and made some great friends, we wanted something more and finally had the opportunity to move.  We both work at home (for the same company even!) so we have the ability to move anywhere we desire.  We wanted a community that had a small-town feel similar to what we grew up with, but with easy access to the city.  We wanted our new place to be family-friendly, lots of festivals and community events, parades – you get the idea.  We also wanted to live in a community that makes it easy to get outside and run, play, and just generally get active.  Oh, and we wanted a house that was within a certain price range, with 4 bedrooms, big kitchen, and a basement that wasn’t super old and in need of a lot of maintenance.  That’s not asking too much, right?  Wrong!  That’s like finding a needle in a haystack!

Part of my new kitchen that I’m absolutely in love with! More pictures will be coming soon.

Well, we found it!  A builder community about an hour west of Chicago that is super family-friendly and meets literally every item on our checklist.  So while it seems really strange to most people that we moved more than 300 miles away from where we were currently living, if you had the ability to move to a place that checked every item off your list, wouldn’t you?

So what now?

Now that the moving process is over, now comes the settling in process.  It’ll be a long process, but to say I’m looking forward to it would be a vast understatement.  So stay tuned because there’ll be lots of decor updates on the blog, and I will definitely need you to help me with some big design decisions, so please follow along with me on Instagram!
