You CAN Handle It!

You CAN handle it.

Today was a rough day. No matter what IT seemed to be today, I didn’t feel like I could handle it. And it was like I was in some weird parallel universe because I had a co-worker feeling the same way. We have different things going on both personally and professionally, but we both seemed to struggling with being able to “handle” it.

I have a fairly decent understanding of how to process feelings and emotions thanks to my ridiculous amount of education in health, psychology, and management, but when YOU are the one with those feelings, everything you learned goes out the window as it obviously doesn’t apply to you.  So you cope how you know how.  For me, that’s putting my efforts into making others feel better.  There’s something insanely therapeutic in helping others get through tough times.  So today, despite how crappy I was feeling, I dealt with my feelings, processed them, talked them out, and moved on so I could try to bring a little positivity to someone else.

My co-worker has had one of the WORST weeks any manager could ever experience.  Without going into detail, just know that her week seemed to be something only movie writers could create. 🙁  Because she’s going through so much at work, I just wanted to do something nice for her.  So often people seem to have the attitude of “better her than me” as we look on like we’re watching a car accident.  That seems horribly tragic and selfish to me.  I’ve offered a listening ear when she’s ready, but I also wanted to let her know that I’m thinking of her during her trying times as a somewhat new manager, so I put together a little gift for her.

Now I know that material objects can’t solve problems, but the thought behind the gesture can mean a lot to someone.  Especially when it involves wine.  And chocolate.  Let’s face it, wine and chocolate and a Friday night can certainly help to make a dent in any negative feelings you had about that week.

So tonight after work I hit up my trusty local Target store and picked up some teeny bottles of wine (everything is cute in miniature size 🙂 ), and of course some chocolate.  These Ghirardelli squares make me smile every time I see their shiny wrapper, so I’m hoping the same will happen for my co-worker.  I also couldn’t help but to package it with a cute smaller wooden tray/crate that she can use one the goodies are gone, and a metal tag and cute notecards, all from the dollar spot.

I hope this random might brings even a small smile to her face knowing that she’s not going through this by herself.  I think it’s always important for us to remember that no matter what IT may be, life never throws more at us than we can handle.  It may not always seem to be the case all the time, but we’re all stronger than we think.
